Queste opere polimateriche (mosaici di grande formato, porte artistiche, specchi arredo) sono nate riflettendo sull’antica arte del SUMINAGASHI (l’inchiostro fluttuante): termine che deriva da sumi (inchiostro) e nagashi (galleggiare,scorrere-via,fluttuare).

These polymathic works (large-format mosaics, artistic doors, furniture mirrors) were born reflecting on the ancient art of SUMINAGASHI (the floating ink): a term that derives from sumi (ink) and nagashi (float, scroll-away, float).

Con la tecnica suminagashi si ottengono linee morbide e sinuose ma anche spezzate e irregolari. Ispirandomi alla fluidità di questa tecnica (che gioca ed addomestica i movimenti dell’inchiostro nell’acqua) ho fatto decine di schizzi da trasformare in tagli (intarsi) da creare sul pannello di legno per inserirvi le mie tessiture musive: realizzando soluzioni tono su tono oppure a contrasto.

With the suminagashi technique you get soft and sinuous lines but also broken and irregular. Inspired by the fluidity of this technique (which is the art of playing and taming the movements of the ink in the water) I made dozens of sketches to be transformed into cuts (inlays) to be created on the wooden panel to insert my mosaic textures: creating tone-on-tone or contrast solutions.
